Our musculoskeletal system is made of different parts (articulations, cartilage, bones, muscles, …) which have to function perfectly to allow precise, smooth and effortless movements.

A healthy way of life including a balanced diet supplying the different parts of this system with essential nutrients is important to maintain joint comfort and mobility, especially after a certain age.

Collagen Max from Doppelherz contains vitamins and trace elements which contribute to a healthy musculoskeletal system and to efficient cell defenses. It contains in addition 11 g Collagen hydrolysate and 100 mg Chondroitin sulphate which are essential components of the cartilages and of connective tissues. These structural and supporting tissues keep organs at their dedicated place and are important for the function of the musculoskeletal system.

Collagen is the main constituent of most connective tissues.

Arranged in fibers, it plays a very important role in the function of ligaments, tendons, cartilages and bones. In cartilages, collagen builds up a structural framework. It provides tensile strength, preventing cartilage from tearing or collapsing under tension. Collagen fibers are indeed very resistant to tension: 10 to 40 kg are necessary to disrupt a collagen fiber of 1 mm diameter!

Collagen is a protein, made up like any other proteins in our body with amino acids. However, collagen has a unique amino acid composition. It is particularly rich in three amino acids, glycine, proline and a modified version of proline called hydroxyproline, which play a decisive role in stabilizing the three-dimensional structure and the tensile strength of collagen fibers.

Our product contains collagen hydrolysate, which means that the large collagen molecule has been broken down to small fragments consisting of short peptides or single amino acids. These in turn can be used by our body to make new collagen fibers.

In cartilages, collagen binds to elastin, another kind of protein that is important for the elastic properties of the tissue. Cross-linking of collagen to elastin depends on an enzyme that requires the trace element copper to function properly. Since it contributes to stabilize newly formed collagen and elastin fibers, copper therefore helps maintain structural integrity of the cartilage.

Oxidative stress is a factor that may affect at the molecular level the functioning of various processes and the integrity of different tissues in our body. Oxidative stress is usually due to an imbalance between the production of free radicals and the body’s ability to neutralize them with antioxidants. Our body produces own antioxidants, for instance glutathione, but also relies on a supply with exogenous antioxidants that are provided through the diet, such as vitamin E, vitamin C, and diverse molecules present in higher amounts in plants, fruits and vegetables.

Selenium is a trace element that is essential for the formation of selenoproteins, several of which are enzymes that help neutralize free radicals and therefore protect cells and tissues from oxidative damage. In addition, selenium contributes to the normal function of the immune system.

Vitamin D contributes to keep healthy bones, and supports normal function of the muscles and of the immune system. This is due on the one hand to the role of vitamin D in regulating circulating calcium levels, which is involved in these processes. On the other hand, muscle as well as immune cells have vitamin D receptors, the activation of which triggers changes in gene expression that play a direct role in their function.

Chondroitin is one of the building blocks of the proteoglycans that compose and give the cartilage its strain- and compression-resistant properties. Proteoglycans indeed bind a lot of water in the tissue, adopting a gel-like consistency that contribute to the resilience and ability of cartilage to withstand compressive forces and to absorb and redistribute mechanical loads during movement and weight-bearing activities.

Copper is a trace element that contributes to the maintenance of normal connective tissues. These structural and supporting tissues keep organs at their dedicated place and are important for the function of the musculoskeletal system.
Vitamin C and the trace elements selenium and copper help to protect cells from oxidative stress.

Doppelherz system Collagen Max combines collagen hydrolysate, chondroitine, as well as vitamin D and two trace elements that contribute to a healthy musculoskeletal system. It helps maintain joint comfort and well-being.

The nutrients are delivered in a liquid form with pleasant wild berry taste, in convenient single dose bottles that can be carried along anywhere.
